A new 12 acre lake will be created for the park. The lake will feature a gradually sloped 3:1 descent into the water with an overall water depth of 15 to 20 feet in the center. The gravel extraction will only go down approximately 30 feet (dependent on clay layers), limiting the depth of the lake.
The lake will support additional plant and animal communities, including fish, reptiles, bird and mammals associated with a still-water, lake habitat. It will also allow for boating and fishing. Additionally, a pier will be included on the lake. To facilitate access for park-goers, both still water and river canoe and kayak launches will be added.
Along the shore, lake edge vegetation plantings and buffering will complement the trails and allow for fishing from the shoreline.
